learn
to play the drums in a day!
(1998)
rhythms,
cycles, and rotations
keep all parts of the universe from flying
apart from each other: from the
smallest negatively charged particles holding
together atoms and molecules, to the gravitational
forces created by celestial bodies and
galaxies. learn to play the drums in
a day! is an endurance performance
reminiscent of conceptual performance pieces
dating from the 1960's. the artist began
teaching himself how to play the drums at noon
on november 14, 1998, and drummed without
ceasing until noon on the following day.
this piece is a metaphor for the learning
process by which a artist or musician or human
being must upon partake to meet ends.
and of course, it is impossible to learn how
to play the drums in a single day... |
